A broad-based mineral approach to mental illness

Mounting evidence suggests that most forms of mental illness including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia  result from a deficiency of nutrients (mainly minerals)in the brain either caused by inadequate absorption from the gut, or  the inability of the brain to properly utilize nutrients.  Numerous studies have detailed the effects of adding single minerals to the diet to observe whether  individual nutrients could resolve the issue.  These attempts have more often than not had limited success, ie. lithium intervention. Unfortunately, these attempts at single ingredient remedies usually upset nutrient balances creating deficiencies in other nutrients.  A broad-based approach seems to be the better alternative since there is often a synergistic effect of several nutrients producing the final result
